Best Man Imp
When listening to the Best Man Imp, Anthony asks you to imagine an anchor point when you are under hypnosis, something that will be in the room when you are speaking that will act as a reminder for you to be calm. This is also called an association signal – it could be the face of a colleague you know will be there, a piece of furniture in the room whatever will serve you best as a reminder for you to say ‘this is where I calm down and enjoy the experience’. It might be an idea to have a think about what this anchor point could be before you settle and listen to the Speech Imp.
Slim Imp
When listening to the slim imp, Julie asks you to imagine yourself at an ideal weight in pounds/kilos. It might be a good idea to have this in mind before you settle down and listen to the Slim Imp.

Sleep Imp
When listening to the Sleep Imp, Patricia asks you think about changing your bedroom so it becomes a place purely for sleeping, and your mind gets to recognise it as such. For example, removing items which stimulate the senses and your mind like the TV, computers, books and radios so that when you go into your bedroom, your mind says ‘ah, this is the place where all I need and want to do is sleep’. Combine this with the hypnotherapy session on The Sleep Imp and you’ll soon be in the land of nod!
Flying Imp
Try and pack your Flying Imp in your hand luggage so if you need a quick hypnotherapy booster session before boarding your flight you can find somewhere quiet in the departure lounge and feel a lot better about getting on the plane. Make sure you check with your airport about security arrangements for hand luggage before you do this as you don’t want to get your Flying Imp confiscated!
The Go Imp
Ideally you need to listen to this for a few weeks before your test for best results, but remember, you don’t need the Go Imp purely if you are about to take your driving test, you might have passed years before but are nervous of the roads. The Go Imp can help you with this too!
General Tips and Hints
Flying
Drink water, not alcohol. Fear, like the effects of jetlag are made worse by dehydration which may be caused by drinking caffeinated and alcoholic drinks – these put a stress on the body and increase fatigue and cloud your thinking and reason.
Travel Sick? Ginger is a traditional herbal remedy for nausea and is available in pills, root form and also in sweets. Always check with your doctor before using any remedy as this may affect any medications or existing conditions you have.
Sleep
Hold Your Tongue!
Experts suggest that you try a clever sleep trick to help you drop off. Close your eyes and hold your tongue so it’s not touching your cheeks or the roof of your mouth, as if you’re yawning with your mouth closed. You’ll be sleeping like a log in no time!
Some Foods including sweetcorn, oats, rice, tomatoes and bananas contain traces of melatonin which studies have shown can help regulate sleep.
There’s some evidence that reduced blood flow to hands and feet can keep you awake. Keep feet warm by wearing socks in bed!
Because taking physical exercise raises internal body temperature, which, in turn wakes you up, exercising before bedtime is not a good way to tackle insomnia. Instead, try relaxing stretches or an indulgent bath.
Driving
A major effect o dehydration is on concentration. If you’re dehydrated you’ll stop being able to think clearly and stay focused. Make sure that you are fit for the road by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Don’t forget to check tyre pressures, oil and water levels regularly and especially before long journeys.
The Speech Imp
First impressions do count, so when you walk into the presentation room, hold your head up and your shoulders down and back. This will help you appear more confident – and if you look more confident, you will be more confident – trust us!
If you feel your confidence slipping at a business meeting or social situation, just think of someone you respect and admire and spend a few minutes acting like them. Eventually, it will become second nature and their self-assurance will become part of your own!
Sunlight boosts the body’s natural levels of mood-busting serotonin, so if you are feeling low on confidence a breath of fresh air could be just what you need! And at least fresh air is plentiful, cos the sun often isn’t!
The Best Man Imp
Standing up straight encourages you to breathe more deeply, which will in turn reduce anxiety levels and help you feel more confident.
Caffeine increases heart rate, which can increase nervousness and anxiety. If you want to feel cool, calm & collected, opt for water or herbal tea instead (you can always make up for your abstinence after the speech!)
If you feel sick with nerves, it could be because your stomach is empty. Confidence levels drop when we’re in need of food, so have a healthy snack even if you think you’re not hungry. Tuck into the wedding cake later!
Tooth Imp
The herb valerian has been shown to help more than two-thirds of people with anxiety. Make tea infusions from roots or take supplements when you feel low.
A stress-relieving point for reducing anxiety and tension is found at the top centre of the forearm (with palm facing downward) in the large section of muscle just underneath the crease of the elbow. Press for several seconds and release several times.
If you don’t floss, you will leave an incredible 35% of the surface of your teeth completely untouched and uncleaned. So for really clean teeth (and to minimise visits to the dentists!) floss every night.
Slim Imp
Dehydration can slow down metabolism as it springs the body into starvation mode and holds onto fat cells that contain high levels of fluids. So drink up to keep your metabolism rate high.
The average person gets more fat from salad dressing than from any other food source. Just 2 tablespoons of salad dressing can contain between 10g and 20g of fat. To lighten up, try oil-free dressings or use fat-free lemon juice instead.
Using chopsticks or swapping your knife and fork into the wrong hands will make you work harder to get the food into your mouth, which uses up more calories – hoorah! It may also encourage you to take smaller bites and in turn allows your stomach to send the essential ‘I’m full’ signals to the brain so you eat less. Everyone’s a winner!
Quit Imp
Get more active – walk instead of taking the bus and climb the stairs instead of using the lift. Exercise helps you relax, boosts your morale and seeing an improvement in your fitness will encourage you to stay of the fags.
Don’t empty your ashstrays – this will remind you how many you smoke and the sight and smell of stale cigarette butts is very unpleasant – therefore a good deterrent!
Tell all your friends and family that you’ve already quit – you’ll be embarrassed when they catch you with a cigarette in your hand! And their ‘pats on your back’ is a really good encouragement!
