About Hypnotherapy
What does Hypnosis feel like?

In short…wonderful! Hypnosis is a very natural and comfortable process, all you will feel is very relaxed similar to the sensation you get just before you drift off to sleep. Afterwards, you will feel totally refreshed, wide awake and raring to go! Personally, the first time I went under, I felt so relaxed that my arms and legs and tongue were really numb! It was a bit weird at first but I was so relaxed, I didn’t mind and it soon returned to normal. Make sure you are really fully alert before you sit or stand up or before you drive or operate any machinery.

How does hypnosis work?

The brain is a wonderfully complex organ, and even the most intelligent boffins cannot tell us what 90% of it does. But to answer this question, let’s consider 2 ways in which we know how the mind works. The first is the conscious way, when you are very aware what you are thinking and what is going on around you. The second is where things are happening automatically in your mind, you are thinking about things but aren’t necessarily aware of what you maybe thinking – this could be when you are really engrossed in a good book or movie for example – yes, that’s also a form of hypnosis.

This second state of mind is where decisions are made that can have a positive affect on your beliefs and emotions. When you use hypnosis properly and professionally, you can influence any negative ways of thinking that you may have and change your life for the better in a very simple but profoundly effective way.

Will I lose control and be made to do stupid things?

Absolutely not. Please don’t confuse hypnotherapy with stage hypnotism. As it’s name suggests, hypnotherapy is a therapy and is there to help you achieve a goal, such as losing weight or giving up smoking or to help alleviate a phobia such as a fear of flying or speaking in front of large groups of people. Stage hypnotism is about creating entertainment, and let’s not forget, those people who choose to do silly things as part of a stage hypnotist show are doing it because they want to. You cannot be hypnotised against your will.

How will it benefit me?

This depends on which hypno imp you choose. If you are a nervous flyer and you buy The Flying Imp, you can expect to see a positive change whereby you may not be scared of getting on a plane and therefore can enjoy better holidays in far-flung exotic places, broadening your horizons and enjoying different cultures or visiting much-missed relatives.

If you want to give up smoking and you buy The Quit Imp, you can see a vast improvement in your health and your wealth as you save money not buying cigarettes. You will regain your sense of taste and enjoy good food and will smell fresher to those around you!

If you are having trouble getting your point across at work and fail to keep people’s attention during business presentations, then buy The Speech Imp and learn how to deliver brilliant talks and keep your audience engaged and hanging on your every word.

If you are having trouble sleeping…..you get the idea. Have a look at our Imp Range page for more inspiration and also look at our Customer Testimonials page for success stories and personal accounts of how the imp has helped improve things for other people!

If I don’t like it, can I stop it?

Of course! Simply stop the player – although totally relaxed and feeling blissful you are in complete control and aware of all that’s going on around you so you can stop at anytime.

Will I lose the benefits if I am disturbed?

Not necessarily. Although we do advise that you try not to be disturbed as you can better relax and therefore take the suggestions into your unconscious mind a lot more effectively. So, we suggest turning off your phone and finding somewhere comfortable to have some quality ‘me’ time. Although, you can listen to your hypno imp in a busy airport lounge or on a train on the way to a job interview (See our forthcoming Interview Imp for that one!) if you wish, in fact anywhere you can relax!

Who is the Imp? What does Imp Mean?

The Imp is our little mascot – his name stands for Improve Mindset Programme (IMP – get it?) and that’s what hypnosis and the Hypno Imp product does, if used correctly, improves your mindset and ultimately, your life.

How many times do I have to use the Hypno Imp to see changes?

Each Hypno Imp has it’s own benefits and ways of working, The hypnotherapist will explain the most effective way of using each imp as part of the recording. Repetition is a very effective way to get benefits from hypnotherapy and that’s part of the beauty of owning an imp, you can use it as many times as you want, when you want!

I’m really struggling to relax and get into it – any tips?

Some people find it easier to relax than others and similarly some people find it easier to go into hypnosis. You may feel more stressed on certain days and therefore not able to relax as easily. If that’s the case, try the 5-7 breathing technique that is used in most of our Hypno Imps it can really help! Simply breathe in over a count to 5, hold for a second then release slowly over a count to 7. You can do this anytime, anywhere without going into hypnosis and it can really calm you down.

Is hypnotherapy dangerous?

If you were glued to a particularly good movie or engrossed in an exciting book, would you feel you were in danger? The answer should be no! Hypnotherapy takes you to that same subconscious world where your concentration is completely focused, this is a natural state and is not dangerous, the sessions are certainly not designed to make you feel uneasy, rest assured, you will not be eating an onion and thinking it’s an apple!

Can I use my hypnotherapy session anywhere?

Yes, we have designed your Imp to be completely portable, giving you the perfect opportunity to utilise your very own therapist when you need them most. We would recommend that when you are listening for the first time, you are somewhere quiet and free from distractions, although this is not always possible and not a compulsory requirement for the session to be successful. When you are feeling more confident, you can choose selected parts of the therapy according to how much support you feel you need, you do not need to do the whole session every time, unless you want to. We also strongly recommend that you use your Hypno Imp when you are in an environment where you feel safe and secure, as your attention will be on the Hypno Imp and not necessarily on your surroundings. Obviously, you can come to full alertness in an instant but it’s nicer not to have to!
